More on Past Tense!!

What is simple past tense? - Simple past tense is to talk about something that had happened in the past eg: yesterday, last night, last week)

Examples: She went to the cinema with her brother yesterday.
: Yesterday, we learned our lessons for not doing our homework.

Prepositions

Today we are going to learn about Prepositions. There are 3 types of Prepositions:

  • Prepositions of Place or Position - To indicate the position of a subject
Examples: The hospital is opposite our school.
He hid under the bridge for sixteen hours.
My mother stacked the boxes above the cupboards.
The lizard hid behind the cupboard.

  • Prepositions of Direction- To indicate where something is going or moving to
Examples: She ran across the field to get her ball.
The dog ran towards the bowl of food.
Aliza turned around when she heard someone calling her name.
Muthu fell into the swimming pool which was 8 feet under.

  • Prepositions of Time- To indicate when something happens
Examples: They went home after the seminar
Lunch was served before the students were hungry.
The students feel asleep during the boring lecture.
